No more recycling, we’re upcycling!

A new trend that is emerging more and more in France, the aim of which is to give a new life to your used products by reusing them.

But what is upcycling?

" Upcycling " is the recovery of used materials or products that you no longer use, to transform them into a more high-end product. This principle will bring both quality to the product and added value.

Upcycled products have a new utility, since upcycling will divert the original use of this product and move it away from its very first life. Most of the time, upcycling will make this object an aesthetic object!

The origin of upcycling

The English word upcycling first appeared in the 90s by Reiner Pilz. This former engineer who became an interior designer started this upcycling trend with the aim of countering traditional recycling.

 

The challenges of upcycling

Upcycling has the advantage of having a positive impact on our environment. But why?

The concept of "reuse" will allow to create savings of energy and raw material in the manufacturing process. Upcycling also allows to reduce waste since we do not throw away to be able to do upcycling so there is no waste. Upcycling is part of a circular economy but also of employment.

In addition, upcycling stimulates your creativity because you have to create an object from used materials or products with the aim of obtaining at the end a unique object of its kind and with a new utility.

This eco-responsible concept is accessible to everyone. Today, everyone can be able to do upcycling to revalue a used object of their choice. Upcycling is not necessarily a big project, you can start with small things like upcycling small objects, like a hanger that becomes your tea towel holder, for example.

What do we upcycle?

It is possible to upcycle anything and by anyone. Everything can be upcycled and you don't need to be an expert to do it. Moreover, companies and associations have embarked on this adventure of fashion upcycling , by offering revalued furniture, clothes, etc.!

Some upcycling ideas : create a table, chairs or even a bed with pallets. Start creating clothes by recycling fabrics here and there. Make vases from old bottles or give an old lamp a new lease of life. But know that EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
