Homemade soap
Homemade soap
Homemade soap is a blend of caustic soda, vegetable oil (olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, or others), and natural fragrance. The ingredients used or usable are organic/natural.
Caution is essential when handling caustic soda, as it is highly corrosive. Handle with safety goggles, gloves, and care. Make sure no one is nearby when handling the soda.

Organic soap
Organic soap is the same as natural homemade soap. Organic soap is made from 100% natural ingredients without chemicals or additives.
Organic soap is a product you can easily make yourself. Commercial soap, on the other hand, is more difficult to make because it's impossible to obtain all the preservatives, additives, and chemicals.
What is cold saponification?
It's a traditional method for making soaps rich in vegetable glycerin. It's a mixture of fatty substances (vegetable oils) and caustic soda. This creates a chemical reaction that solidifies and produces soap.
Homemade soap recipe with sweet almond:
- 35 g of caustic soda
- 85 ml of water
- 8 ml of sweet almond oil
- 80 g of coconut oil
- 100 g olive oil
- 60 g of shea butter
Utensils:
- An immersion blender
- A mold
- A cooking thermometer
- A deep glass container (no risk of splashing)
Homemade soap takes about 3 to 4 weeks to dry before use and is corrosive for several days.
Let's start the recipe. First, equip yourself to protect yourself in case of a soda splash (it's better to be too careful than not careful enough!).
Dilute the water and caustic soda in the glass container. In a double boiler, add the coconut oil and shea butter. Once melted, add the olive oil. Once your mixture has melted, remove from the heat and allow it to reach a temperature below 40 degrees. Then, taking all necessary precautions, pour the oil mixture into the soda. Pour the mixture onto the side of your container or onto the immersion blender to avoid any splashes. Add the sweet almond oil and mix with the blender. Try not to move your blender to avoid the risk of splashing. Finally, pour immediately into your mold before your soap sets.
When cleaning your utensils, keep your protection because the soda is still corrosive and it can still be splashed when cleaning under water. Caution!! Wash your blender well if you use it for your kitchen. With a pH tester, check that your soap is between 9 and 10. Otherwise, it will be ineffective or corrosive.
After 48 hours you can unmold using gloves because it is still corrosive. Then let it dry for 3-4 weeks before cutting and using it.
