Hemp essential oil

Hemp essential oil

Hemp or cannabis essential oil, although it can present a certain neurotoxicity, is not known so much for its sedative properties as for its other therapeutic virtues. Indeed, hemp essential oil, or better known by the name of cannabis, is mainly indicated to relieve inflammation of the digestive tract but also of the respiratory tract. It is therefore useful in cases of bronchitis or difficult digestion. Cannabis essential oil, although presenting certain risks requiring some precautionary measures, has no contraindications except for pregnant women and babies under 3 years old.

Having become very trendy in recent years, essential oils represent a natural and powerful alternative for taking care of our body and mind on a daily basis. Essential oil is a substance concentrated in volatile aromatic extracts from a plant. Despite its name, it does not contain oil.

Our hemp essential oil is obtained by the steam distillation method. This consists of passing water vapor through the selected part of the plant, carrying the plant aromatic molecules with it. We therefore obtain a mixture of water vapor and different biochemical components . This mixture is then condensed, that is to say, it is cooled to allow the separation of water and essential oil, because these two fractions cannot mix in the liquid state (they are said to be “immiscible”). We therefore recover the essential oil which is on the surface, because its density is lower than that of water. The remaining water is called hydrosol or floral water.

It takes about one ton of hemp , from French production, to obtain one liter of essential oil . This explains its rarity and its price on the market, comparable to that of rose or immortelle essential oil!

Our hemp essential oil contains over 200 compounds, some of which are recognized in aromatherapy for their very interesting biochemical properties, such as sesquiterpenes, monoterpenes, and terpene oxides. Since cannabinoids are not soluble in water, our essential oil does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive molecule in cannabis.

With its antibacterial and antifungal action , hemp essential oil also represents an interesting cosmetic ally for taking care of the skin and hair.

Applied in an oil bath diluted in a vegetable oil in association with other essential oils such as palmarosa or geranium, it helps to regulate excess sebum and to fight against dandruff.

In facial care, it is also recommended to limit the appearance of imperfections and purify the skin.

Hemp is a species of annual herbaceous plant in the Cannabaceae family, originating mainly from the regions of Central or South Asia and growing up to 6 meters tall. Covered with downy hairs, this fibrous plant has a stiff, grooved stem that is rarely branched. Plants grown legally for their fibers (floss, hemp shiv) or seeds (hemp) are commonly called "industrial hemp." The psychotropic molecules they contain (THC) are present in lower quantities (>0.2%) than in "recreational" hemp.

Hemp has been used for thousands of years (for 10,000 years in Asia) for its medicinal properties and its extremely strong fiber, to make ropes, paper, clothing, or various constructions. Hemp seeds, rich in omega-3 and omega-6, were intended for human or animal consumption, or crushed to obtain various oils (lamp oils, cooking oil)

In some traditions, hemp is considered a sacred plant, as attested by the Atharva-Veda, and could serve as an initiatory or spiritual ritual in many mystical practices. Thus, in Buddhism, legend has it that hemp and hemp seeds were Siddhartha's sole source of food during the six years preceding his enlightenment. Sufi priests and Zoroastrians (the Magi) also extolled the virtues of hemp and used it as a holy oil or medicinal plant.
