Homemade fabric softener

Homemade fabric softener, the alternative to stopping chemicals:

Fabric softener, like laundry detergent and other products you can find in supermarkets, are unfortunately made with polluting and harmful chemicals.

And yes, just like laundry detergent, we can also make our own fabric softener. Are you tired of chemicals being released into the environment? Then make your own laundry detergent, fabric softener, soap, creams, etc.

Why use vinegar?

If you don't have the desire or the courage to make your own fabric softener at home, you can still use vinegar alone! Vinegar will only have positive effects; it will soften any fabric, whether natural or synthetic. Vinegar is an anti-limescale agent, which is why your laundry will be softened. Vinegar leaves no odor on your laundry, but it does disinfect, deodorize, and descale the washing machine. It's also more environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic.

Homemade fabric softener recipe:

  • 500 ml of water
  • 300 ml of white or spirit vinegar
  • Essential oil (choice of lemon, eucalyptus, lavender or mint)

Why not other essential oils simply because they risk causing irritation.

In a container, mix water and vinegar, then add a few drops of essential oil. Don't add too much essential oil, as it may stain your laundry. Close your container, shake it several times, and your fabric softener is ready!

Before each use, shake your fabric softener again to ensure it's thoroughly mixed. Pour 50 ml into the designated compartment of your washing machine. To take this process further, use homemade laundry detergent.
